Empowering women as key change agents is one of our three pillars at The Hunger Project. Whilst our methodology is adapted to meet local challenges, our Women’s Empowerment Programme is a critical part of our holistic and innovative approach to ending hunger and poverty.

In Africa, each of our Women's Empowerment Programme workshops are attended by around 60 participants.  These workshops are designed to provide training to both men and women, so they have the knowledge to raise community-wide awareness of women’s vital and often overlooked contributions to her family and society.

The workshop covers topics such as sexual and reproductive health rights, maternal health services available, family planning, gender-based violence, gender roles, gender inequality, child marriage and women’s rights.

It fosters an environment that empowers women to take up strategic positions in society and decision-making bodies as well as empower them as advocates for human rights and gender-based and development issues within their communities.

There is no tool for development more effective than the empowerment of women.
