Learn more about the movie:

Movie Synopsis:

Inspired by the life of Chris "Brolga" Barns, the founder of The Kangaroo Sanctuary in Alice Springs, the film Kangaroo is a heartwarming family comedy. It follows Chris Masterman, a disgraced former TV personality, who becomes stranded in a remote Outback town after a car accident. While there, he forms an unlikely and life-changing friendship with a 12-year-old Indigenous girl named Charlie. Together, they embark on a mission to rescue and rehabilitate orphaned kangaroo joeys, an endeavor that helps them both find a new sense of purpose and the importance of community.

The Capitol Cinema

We are pleased to be partnering with the Capitol Cinema to present this movie. The Capitol Cinema, located on Dominion Road in Auckland, is an iconic and historic single-screen theater that offers a unique and charming movie-going experience. First opened in 1923, the cinema is a Category 2 heritage building with a distinctive neo-Greek exterior and an art-deco interior featuring a purple and gold color scheme and plush seating. Please note that there is no wheelchair access or lift available at the Capitol.

For parking, the Capitol Cinema provides several convenient options. There is free street parking available nearby on Rocklands Avenue and Wiremu Street. Additionally, a paid Secure Parking lot is located directly behind the cinema in the area of the old Warehouse car park. For those using public transport, the 25B and 25L bus routes stop right outside, and the OuterLink and 650 bus routes have stops nearby on Balmoral Road.

Thank you for your continued support!

We are so incredibly grateful for your investment in our work. Every ticket purchased and every donation made through our events is a powerful vote of confidence in our mission to create a world without hunger and poverty. Your generosity is not just a one-time contribution; it is the vital fuel that enables us to continue our long-term, sustainable work on the ground.

By focusing on empowering people to become the agents of their own development, The Hunger Project is not simply providing aid—we are fostering lasting change. Your support helps communities build self-reliance, and the results speak for themselves. In the communities we partner with, we have seen:
  • A 26% decrease in severe hunger.

  • A 27% decrease in household poverty.

  • A 31% increase in female business ownership.

  • 76% of minors now going to school.

These are not just numbers; they represent countless lives transformed, families with a secure future, and communities building a better world for themselves. Thank you for being a part of this profound and impactful journey.
